When to Choose Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace a missing tooth. Not only do they effectively return the proper aesthetics to a smile, but they also offer much of the functional support of a natural tooth.

Dental bridges are comprised of two crowns at each end, with a prosthetic tooth in the middle. This prosthetic tooth is called a pontic. In order to replace a tooth that is missing, a dental bridge must be supported by the two teeth that are surrounding the missing tooth. In fact, our Beverly Hills dentist will need to prepare these surrounding teeth so that the crowns will fit over them. The dentist will prepare these teeth by removing some of their enamel. Once enough enamel is removed, the crowns will be able to fit over these teeth and serve to anchor the bridge as abutments.

With a dental bridge, you will be able to eat and speak as you did before your tooth went missing. The bridge will also prevent the teeth from shifting out of place. When a tooth goes missing, the other teeth will oftentimes start shifting in order to compensate, but the bridge will help to stop this from happening.
