What You Should Know about Teeth Whitening at Malls

At some malls, you may see kiosks offering teeth whitening treatments at a fraction of the cost. While they tend to use the same active ingredients that are present in professional and at-home teeth whitening treatments, there are a few things you should know about these teeth whitening kiosks located at the mall.
The main drawback to these teeth whitening kiosks is that the person working them is not a dental professional in any sense of the word. They are simply selling a product that can be used to whiten teeth. They are not going to be able to give you the same advice that a dentist will be able to provide. For instance, some people do not make good candidates for teeth whitening procedures. Most dental restorations, including veneers, dental bonding, bridgework, fillings, and crowns do not respond to whitening treatments. The reason for this is because these items are made from different materials than our natural teeth. This means that the rest of your teeth will whiten, but the restorations will not, resulting in a splotchy look. Also, if some kind of problem occurs during the treatment, these mall workers are not trained to adequately assist you. Furthermore, improper application of the peroxide-based whitening products can result in burns to the lips and gums. These issues are easily preventable by going to the dentist.
If you wish to whiten your teeth, avoid the malls, and contact our Beverly Hills tooth whitening doctor instead.
