What Should Teens Know about Invisalign?

Invisalign is an option for most teenagers. While some aged seventeen or older may qualify for Invisalign Full, most others will need Invisalign Teen. Here is what patients in this age group should know about this treatment from our cosmetic dentist in San Francisco.

Great for Athletes and Woodwind Musicians

Because Invisalign aligners are smooth and free of brackets, they are comfortable and unobtrusive. Teens who play contact sports will enjoy being free of the abrasion that brackets can cause. For woodwind musicians, aligners are ideal because they do not interfere with playing.

Sufficient Wear Is Required

Aligners are not bonded in place, so patients must remember to wear their aligners for at least twenty-two hours per day. The aligners should be removed before meals and when drinking beverages other than water, and placed on the teeth again immediately afterwards.

Daily Cleaning Is Necessary

Invisalign has made its aligners resistant to stains, but they still can accumulate grime and become discolored if neglected. Daily cleaning using a soft-bristled toothbrush, lukewarm water, and dish detergent will keep the aligners clear.

Teen patients often prefer the discretion that Invisalign provides, but this is far from the only benefit. Patients can contact us to schedule a consultation with our expert in Invisalign Teen in San Francisco.
