What Not To Do with Veneers

Veneers are thin caps, usually porcelain, bonded to the front of the teeth using a strong type of dental cement. Because veneers essentially cover up your natural teeth, they become exposed to everything you eat and drink, as well as all other forces that your mouth and jaw endure throughout the day. Taking good care of your veneers can help them last for years, in some cases, even up to 20!

The easiest way to keep your veneers looking great is to maintain good at-home dental care. Brush and floss your teeth regularly, and be sure to attend scheduled dental cleanings.

Here is what not to do with veneers:

Do not consume a lot of alcohol on a daily basis. This wears away the cement bonding your veneers to your teeth and will cause your veneers to deteriorate sooner than you would like. Also, keep use of alcohol-containing dental mouthwashes to a minimum.

Do not chew on pens or your nails. Also, try not to snack on hard foods, as these can damage your veneers.

Do not eat or drink stain-causing foods or beverages. Your veneers may not catch red wine stains, but the cement holding them in place might, resulting in an outlined veneer.
