Types of Teeth Whitening

A brilliant white smile is synonymous with youthfulness, happiness, and success. Many of our patients who are seeking a way to feel better about themselves and have more confidence find that teeth whitening provides what they want.
Patients interested in teeth whitening have two options. They can choose at-home whitening or a professional whitening. Our cosmetic dentist in Torrance sees no harm in patients trying an at-home whitener. However, patients who compare results usually discover that a professional whitening is quicker, even, and long-lasting.
The two typical kinds of professional teeth whitening are whitening in office by a dentist or supervised professional whitening at home.
• IN-OFFICE WHITENING BY A DENTIST- Your desired results are typically attained in a single office visit when you choose the in-office whitening option. The procedure needs no anesthetics, although we will use a gel or a plastic shield to keep whitening solution off of your gums.
The whitening process begins when our dentist coats your teeth with a concentrated solution of hydrogen peroxide. The whitener concentration is between 15 to 35 percent; this is a notably higher concentration than over-the-counter whitening kits. The dentist then uses a heat or light source to speed the whitening process.
• SUPERVISED WHITENING AT HOME- Some patients find that applying the whitening agent at home is more comfortable or more convenient than visiting our office.
For a supervised at-home whitening, our dentist makes custom mouth trays from impressions of your teeth. These mouthpieces will hold the whitening gel close to your teeth. At-home results are usually not as fast as in-office results; you must fill the mouth trays with whitening gel and wear the trays for a few hours each day until your teeth reach your desired level of whiteness. Even though the results are slower than the in-office whitening, our patients report being very satisfied with their results.
If you are interested in either an in-office or at-home professional teeth whitening, call our office. Our staff is happy to help you decide which teeth whitening option is best for you.
