Restoring Damaged Teeth

A tooth that has been damaged can be restored in a number of different ways. Many times the procedure that is used for restoring it will depend on how the tooth was damaged in the first place.

For instance, if the tooth was just slightly chipped, it can be restored using several different methods. Dental bonding can provide a quick fix that can be done in the course of just one office visit to our dentist in Los Angeles. Another approach is to use a porcelain veneer in order to conceal the chip. You can even restore a minor chip with a dental crown if you so choose.

If a tooth has been broken near the gum line, your options are more limited. You may first have to undergo a crown lengthening procedure in order to expose enough of the tooth to be fit with a crown. If the damage affected the pulp of the tooth, you may require a root canal before it can be restored with a dental crown. If the tooth was broken to the point that it is not possible to save it, a dental extraction will be your only choice. For a tooth that needs to be extracted, it is recommended that you use a bridge or a dental implant to replace it.
