Invisalign is similar to other forms of braces in its basic process, which involves straightening the teeth gradually in a series of steps. However, the treatment also has its own unique aspects related to its use of aligners. Here is a look at the steps for Invisalign.

The first step in Invisalign treatment is the initial appointment for reviewing your candidacy, goals, and preparation. A thorough exam is done to ensure the health of the patient and to identify goals, followed by taking bite impressions, photos and X-rays that will be used to make the personalized aligners. Once the first aligners arrive at our office, patients will return to receive instructions and begin treatment.

Throughout the treatment period, patients have to return regularly to have their progress monitored, and to start the next stages of correction. Depending on the patient, completion of the correction may take less than a year or up to two years to complete. Finally, patients receive a retainer that is similar to the aligners in its design to keep the teeth in their new positions.

Finishing Invisalign on schedule depends on the compliance by the patient. By attending all appointments and wearing the aligners as often as instructed, patients can optimize their treatment time.
