Mini Implants and Their Benefits

Traditional dental implants require that a patient has enough strength and density in their jawbone to be able to support the implant. For those patients that do not have the necessary strength and density, a bone graft surgery must first be done by our Los Angeles dental implants dentist before they can have traditional implants placed. Alternately, mini dental implants can be used instead for many of the same applications as traditional implants, as mini dental implants do not have a jawbone density requirement. In fact, mini implants do not require as invasive of a placement procedure either.

Mini dental implants are most commonly used for replacing all of the teeth with a fixed bridge or a removable overdenture. Dentures that are supported by mini dental implants afford patients a much more comfortable and secure fit than traditional dentures. A mini dental implant can also be used to replace a single missing tooth. The number of mini dental implants needed correlates to the number of roots that the missing tooth had. For a front tooth only one mini dental implant is needed, but for a moral it is more appropriate to use two mini dental implants. Another benefit of mini dental implants is that since they are smaller than traditional implants, they also tend to be cheaper.
