How are CEREC Crowns Made?

Dental crowns are restorations that can be used to restore and protect teeth that are structurally compromised due to decay, trauma, or other factors. In the past, a dental crown required two visits. At your first visit, we would remove the diseased tissue and shape the tooth. A dental impression would be taken and sent to the dental lab, which would craft your restoration and send it back to us to be placed. The process required two appointments for you as well as two injections of anesthesia and a temporary restoration. Now, we are able to prepare and place a crown in a single visit thanks to CEREC crowns.

We begin by preparing your tooth just as with a traditional crown. Once your tooth has been shaped, we use a special tool to take a digital impression rather than a traditional dental impression. The digital image of your tooth is then used to design your new crown. We use advanced technology to create a crown that matches the color and other features of your natural tooth. Once the crown’s design is finished, our special milling unit mills the crown out of a single block of porcelain. We can place the crown as soon as it is done.
