Dental Veneers and Bridges

Dental veneers are two popular treatments available for cosmetic and restorative treatment. While bridges are most commonly restorative, veneers are usually cosmetic. However, preparations for these treatments can be similar, and patients with veneers can more easily get bridges on those teeth later if necessary.

Veneers Explained

What are porcelain veneers? Veneers are thin shells that are placed on the fronts of teeth to hide stains, cracks, gaps and other flaws. In some cases, our dentist may also recommend veneers to protect previously cracked teeth that have been repaired with bonding.

Bridges Explained

Bridges hold artificial crowns in place by anchoring them to adjacent teeth. Although some hardware is present above the gum line with a bridge, the results effectively improve appearance and functioning after loss of one or several contiguous teeth. Bridges can last for many years with proper care, but some extra dental hygiene is required to prevent food and bacteria from accumulating alongside the hardware.

Both veneers and bridges require some removal of enamel from teeth before placement. As a result, less preparation is necessary to anchor bridges to teeth previously covered with veneers. To learn more about each of these treatments and transitioning between them, patients can schedule a consultation with our dental veneers specialist in Beverly Hills.
