Candidates for Dentures

Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that can be taken out and put back in at the patient’s leisure. They are made out of acrylic resin and metal. Dentures are made to look exactly like a full set of teeth, but with the added benefit of removal. They are used to improve the abilities to eat and speak, as well as provide support to the facial muscles. Many believe that dentures are only for those who are missing all of the teeth in the mouth, but those missing only a few teeth may be candidates for dentures, as well.

Our dentists in Orange County may consider you a good candidate for dentures if you experience one or more of the following issues:

  • Extensive tooth decay requiring extraction
  • Missing most or all of the teeth on the upper or lower arch, or both
  • The teeth have been severely damaged by decay or injury, and cannot be saved
  • You are unable to undergo a procedure or surgery for alternative tooth replacements
  • You have difficulty with eating, speaking, or other daily functions due to several missing teeth
  • You suffer from considerable self-consciousness due to missing teeth

Full dentures are available for those missing most or all of the teeth in their mouth, while patient dentures can be offered for those with only several missing teeth. Those with only one or two missing should considered alterative options. Our expert in dentures in Orange County can give you more information about each option.
