Candidates for Dental Sedation

Many people experience anxiety over seeing the dentist. It could be a fear of possibly needing a more invasive procedure performed or it could be the result of a previous bad experience. Rest assured, you will be well taken care of in the hands of our dentist, and you should never delay getting dental treatment when you really need it. A problem that has a simple fix could escalate and cause something that requires more complicated methods to treat.

If you suffer from dental phobia, ask your dentist about the various sedation dentistry options available. Minimal sedation typically involves nitrous oxide, otherwise referred to as laughing gas. This will make you awake but relaxed during the procedure. Patients who require a more moderate form of sedation may be given oral medications that will put you in a deep state of relaxation. You will still be awake, but most likely, you will not remember anything from the procedure.

Deep sedation may be necessary for patients who suffer from severe dental anxiety. It may also be necessary for patients who have developmental issues that prevent them from fully cooperating with the treatment. In this scenario, a sedative will be administered intravenously, making you drift off to sleep.
