Can Anyone Get Dental Implants?

Implantology is exciting for both dentists and patients. The dentist gets to experience the thrill of biomechanical regeneration, and the patient replaces a missing tooth with strength and normalcy. Titanium implants are largely considered superior to dentures and bridges. But not everyone qualifies, and there are points you should be aware of before discussing implants with your specialists.

Bone density
The most essential part of the implant is the titanium root. This is embedded in the jaw and allowed to fuse naturally with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. The root can be hollow or solid, and be cylindrical or screw-shaped. For the implant to accept fully, however, the recipient must have lots of jaw floor. If there’s been bone loss due to periodontitis or another illness, you may need bone grafting or a sinus lift.

Gum health
As a precursor to bone health, our expert in dental implants in Torrance prefers healthy gum tissue free of encroaching periodontal disease.

Age
Much younger and much older patients rarely qualify for implants. Children and early adolescents still have too many facial bones that are still setting. The elderly may not have the bone quality, or may not accept grafting.
