Are Lumineers better than Veneers?

Smile maintenance can be daunting. Reports occur about one dental trend or another, and it is hard to know which one is right for you. The pros and cons of Lumineers vs. braces are much discussed, as are those of Lumineers vs. veneers. The latter argument is one worth having if you are looking to educate yourself on non-surgical, non-invasive alternatives to dental implants.
Dental veneers are a form of cosmetic dentistry in which a thin layer of porcelain or composite is applied to your natural teeth. Dental veneers may address any of the following:
• Worn enamel. The translucent substance covering your teeth can thin significantly over time. It can also become discolored by cola, coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco.
• Normal wear and tear. Over thousands of days and meals your teeth can take quite a beating. This is not including injury or decay, or excessive teeth-grinding.
• Genetics. Some people are born with dental abnormality, such as spacing between teeth.
A drawback of dental veneers is that they can require extensive maintenance to affected teeth, and even incursion of the tooth root. In light of this, Lumineers are a popular form of veneer. Referred to as “no-prep”, they do not require advanced orthodontia beforehand, and the timetable is much faster. If the prospect of shot or anesthesia disconcerts you, or if you want your smile to update quickly, this may be an intriguing option.
